The mail has become a common part of society, but there are many interesting facts about it!
If you are like most people, the first thing you do when you get home is to check the mail. The mail has become such a common, everyday part of our lives that most of us never give it a second thought. However, the mail is much more interesting than most people think. In our last blog, the experts at Worcester Envelope went over several fun facts about the mail. Here are the last two fun mail facts that we have for you:
#9. The Pony Express was never a part of the Postal Service.
The Pony Express famously delivered mail through the Wild West before the U.S. Postal Service got there. It was only in business for about a year and a half, but contrary to popular belief, it was never actually a part of the Postal Service.
#10. Home mail delivery didn’t begin until after the Civil War.
Prior to the Civil War, the only way to get your mail would be to go the post office, but an Ohio City postal clerk, Joseph Briggs, felt bad for the women waiting in long lines in the cold for word from their family members in the war. He created free home mail delivery, and it was so successful, that is quickly spread across the nation.
